In ‘How to Poison a Planet’ we follow the award-winning environmental activists, American lawyer Rob Bilott and actor and climate justice advocate Mark Ruffalo. The film tells of their fight against one of the world’s most serious and still downplayed environmental disasters – caused by the production and use of PFAS. These so-called ‘forever chemicals’ can be found in numerous everyday items, such as the non-stick coating in Teflon pans, the waterproofing of clothing and in the packaging of food. With access to previously unreleased and sworn statements from scientists and employees, the film exposes the corrupt companies that promoted the production and use of PFAS. Although the companies have known about the potential environmental and health risks, controversy still exists concerning their use and prohibition. Next year, the EU could make a fundamental decision on the continued usage of PFAS– but a host of lobbyists is trying to prevent a ban.

In this year’s new Kiez-Kino, we are showing DARK WATERS, a feature film by award winning director, Todd Haynes, that deals with the legal battle waged by lawyer Rob Bilott against the production of PFAS (forever chemicals). Mark Ruffalo stars in the film in the role of Rob Bilott.
