Living mostly in the underworld, in the forest floor – only sometimes do their caps emerge from the earth: the fungi or mushrooms of this world. The film follows renowned biologist Merlin Sheldrake as he explores the mysterious web of life on our planet and searches for a valuable blue fungus somewhere in the middle of the Tarkine, the rainforest of Tasmania. Along the way, we discover some of the most incredible organisms that have ever lived.

Mushrooms communicate, they set scent marks, they come in all conceivable colours, some even glow at night. Fungi can teach us how to survive by working together in a dramatically changing world. This hidden world of wonders is narrated by a beguiling voice from Iceland: that of Björk.
