Lobbyists, Teflon pans and plastic in the head – The second edition presents a total of 26 national and international films from May 22 to 25, 2025. Tickets go on sale on April 17 at www.greenvisions-potsdam.de.
According to the Bundestag’s lobby register, lobbyists spent almost one billion euros in 2024 to influence political decisions. The environment and climate are among the most important issues that these special “influencers” wanted to influence. Two precisely researched documentaries, which can be seen at this year’s GREEN VISIONS POTSDAM film program, show how this can be done: “The White House Effect” by Bonni Cohen, Pedro Kos and Jon Shenk and “How to Poison a Planet” by Katrina McGowan with Mark Ruffalo. This film is dedicated to the poisoning caused by the perpetuating chemicals PFAS and PTFE, known among other things as the coating of Teflon pans. The film and science festival will be showing the 26 short and feature-length films from May 22 to 25 at the Filmmuseum Potsdam and other venues. All film screenings will again be accompanied by experts and scientists, who will also be available to answer questions from the audience.
“100 billion euros are available to the federal governments for a better climate. The way we live is heating up the climate. It is not necessary for glaciers to melt, oceans to be littered with plastic and dangerous chemicals to endanger our everyday lives. There have long been alternatives and solutions for a better life. This is what we want to show with this year’s GREEN VISIONS program,” says Festival Director Dieter Kosslick.
At the market for sustainable living in front of the Filmmuseum Potsdam, inspiring initiatives show that many things can be solved differently.
For the first time, the Potsdamer Kiez-Kino is bringing festival films to the Potsdam districts of Drewitz, Schlaatz, Waldstadt and Groß Glienicke. The new Beelitz cinema will be part of the program with a special screening and UNESCO Creative City of Film will be showing seven selected films that deal creatively with the topic of sustainability in a short form. Together with the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and PLANET NARRATIVES, the festival is also organizing an afternoon of films by and about Japan’s animation master Hayao Miyazaki as well as a discussion on the “power of fictional storytelling and its influence on our thoughts and actions”.
